Ben On The Run

Maybe we didn't mention it here before, but Benjamin has been participating in the local high school's track and field program this Spring. He was recruited by the track coach during a 3 mile fun run last Fall that was held at the high school. Being a home-schooled student didn't seem to pose much of an obstacle for getting Ben on the team.

I don't think Ben was sure about what he got himself into once practices started. Apparently, they were hard work and made him tired. :) However, after the first track meet, he was sold, I think, on the camaraderie and excitement. It helped that his teammates were good kids, willing to accept Ben even though he wasn't a fellow classmate. It wasn't too long before I noticed that Ben was running EVERYWHERE, and would often jump up and down in place as if he was in constant training for his next meet.

With the rest of the track team, Ben got to go to the state 1B high school track meet in Cheney, WA last month. Ben competed in the 4x100 meter relay, where they took 8th place.

Now that the season is over the Spring sports award was held last night at school. Not only was Ben recognized as a member of the team, but he also received the Coaches Award on a very nice little wood plaque. You can see Ben holding it in the picture below.

Below is a picture of Ben's coach, Bob. He is a wonderful, caring, and thoroughly enjoyable person, and we couldn't be happier to have him as Ben's coach. Good job, Bob!

Needless to say, we are very proud of Ben, and look forward to seeing him compete next year.
