We're Still Here!

Wow, we haven't updated our blog in a while. Here's is a quick update on what has been happening at the farm

The Butchering
Sometime last month a lady gave us fourteen roosters. My family decided to kill 'em! One person would grab its legs and the other person, with the hatchet, would put its head between two nails in a chopping block Then they would lop its head off. After its head was chopped off, it would start flapping and hopping around and making noises. We did this 14 times.

This summer we didn't do much. One thing we did do was butcher roosters. It started with Dad grabbing one of the roosters and bringing it to the block. He would put it between two nails and chop its head off with a hatchet. There were 14 roosters and one hen. We killed the hen by accident. So after we killed it we put it in hot water, pulled its feathers off, skinned it, cut it open, then pulled its guts out. - Joey

It was pretty disgusting, but you get use to it after the first couple chickens.  I don't think I will get use to the smell, however.  We had to plug in our extra freezer to store all the chicken bits till we can use it all.  I see a lot of chicken noodle soup in our future!

We let the wild bunny breed with our females.  The little bunnies were so cute!

One of my nice neighbors brought me some sweetpeas!

We enjoy the I-Spy books.  We decided to make our own.

We also put up a zipline. The Scouts helped us install it one weekend. Extremely accident prone Ma fell off the zipline 15 feet.  You can see how high the platform is in this picture.  I pretty much fell from it.  Praise our awesome God she didn't kill herself or break anything. She was very bruised and also very blessed by all the prayers said for her.

The Scouts also helped out at the Friends of Lake Sylvia Blackberry Festival. They made dutch oven meals. Some of the dishes were: Pizza Rolls (Daniel), stew (Ty), Blackberry Cobbler (Joey), Peach Cobbler (Benji & Myles).

Hiliarous Lip-Readings
Sometimes, our dad brings some funny videos from the internet back to our house and we watch them on the laptops or the projector.  Recently, we watched another video that our dad brought called Eye of the Sparrow.  The group that makes it make a lot of lip-reading videos of movies or videos online.  It's pretty funny.

Washington Jamboree 2012
A month ago or so, with our troop, we went to Fort Lewis McChord for Washjam. It's was very hot the first day. It reached the upper 90s, but it cooled down further in the week. On the first night of Washjam, they had a music show for everyone to watch.  People were asked if they wanted to perform  on stage for everyone.  It was pretty cool but afterwards there was a zombie night hike that was awesome!  The staff told us the first rule was that you can't run.   I am pretty sure everyone that went on that night hike broke that rule because they didn't want to get hit by the zombies.  They also said that you had three lives but I don't know anyone that actually kept track of their lives.  There was a lot of activities during the day that we could do.   I think best was the battle arena, even though I didn't go in there.  It was fun seeing troops beat each other up with foam weapons.
