Dual Survival Dave

Picture of Dave and his co-host Cody - not sure why they are holding hands!
Wednesday, we went to go see Dave Canterbury (you know, the guy from Dual Survival). He came to the Grays Harbor College to tell people about survival in the Washington weather and environment.

I thought it was pretty cool that a local doctor, John C. Bausher, would pay for Dave Canterbury to come and stay.

Here's a brief summary of what he talked about:

The ten Cs of survival, urban or wilderness

1. Cutting Tools - Knife, ax, bucksaw - buy quality, it's worth the money
2. Combustion Devices - kerosene heater & fuel, candles, waterproof box of lighters - sure fire
3. Cover - two 100% wool blankets for every person in family
4. Containers - totes, garbage bags - all sorts of purposes
5. Clorox Bleach - 5 gallons per week of disaster - for disinfecting
6. Cotton Cloth - bedsheets, bandanas - all sorts of purposes
7. Cargo Tape - duct tape - at least a couple of rolls
8. Cordage - rope, catfish bankline or mariners line tar covered - all sorts of purposes
9. Combination Tool - recommended Leatherman Core
10. Can Foods - meat, veggies, beans and evaporated milk - don't get lean/low fat
He talked about a lot more stuff and in much more detail than what I have here. We will have to watch his show now! I had never heard of it before we saw the flyer for the event. The show, from what we understand, sounds a little more useful than Survivor Man. We shall have to do a review once we see one of the episodes, tho.
