In our never ending quest to brutalize our lower extremeties to see gorgeous panoramas, Captain Crooked Nose and myself hiked up Dog Mountain. And I do mean "up". The first 1/2 mile of the trail guided us up 700 feet of elevation. The entire 3+ mile ascent brought us up almost 3,000 feet. That's a lot of up. Whew!
It was worth it, though. Sublime alpine meadows, breathtaking vistas, and excellent company.
We hiked around the back of the mountain in an effort to reduce the steepness of the descent. The entire trip was over seven grueling miles.
I look forward to the next challenge.
